Walsingham - Class of 1990 |
I feel my nine years of Catholic schooling has served
me well. I can recall a time in high school when I visited a public school
to see what I "might be missing out on." On the contrary, I
left feeling privileged and glad to be at Walsingham Academy. What set
my education apart from the other school?
The intimate size of my Catholic school allowed for individual attention
to learning needs. It also allowed me to actually know all of the people
in my graduating class! Most of all, it instilled respect and pride. I
was amazed at how little respect the other students had for their school
or their faculty. They paid no attention and made it difficult for other
students to learn. Catholic schools have a reputation for being a bit
more rigid.
However, without the discipline, you end up with people who
really do not care about their education. Moreover, it only takes one
person to disrupt the learning environment for everyone else. I realized
that day, that I was not missing a thing; they were. I must confess this
is all clearer to me now that I am looking back on it. I did not realize
that the respect I had for my teachers and school would some day be the
same respect I have for my employer and company. I also could not have
imagined that the friends I would have called in an emergency ten years
ago are the same friends I would call today.
I cannot put my finger on the one thing that made the difference in my
Catholic education. I just know that it helped make me the person I am
today and I am proud of that.
