How to Choose Scripture Sharing/Study
The Catholic Biblical Association of
America (based at Catholic University in Washington, DC see
http://cba.cua.edu/default.cfm ) recently came
out with guidelines for evaluating quality Adult Catholic Bible
study materials. Some of these principles are applicable to
other adult formation materials as well. The Catholic
Biblical Association of America says
Catholic bible study programs should:
1) Be in conformity to major Catholic
documents on Scripture, especially Dei Verbum (1965), the
Catechism of the Catholic Church (2d ed., 1997), the
Post-Synodal Apostolic Exhortation of Benedict XVI, Verbum
Domini (2010), and the Pontifical Biblical Commission
instructions On the Historical Truth of the Gospels
(1964), The Interpretation of the Bible in the Church
(1993), The Jewish People and Their Sacred Scriptures in the
Christian Bible (2002), and The Bible and Morality
(2008);
Reading the Bible with Reverent Imagination
Presents scripture basics and sound principles of interpretation for Catholic Christians
