Position: Part-Time Accompianist

Salary: Commensurate with Experience. 

The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church is seeking a new pastoral musician-accompanist for liturgies and rehearsals beginning September 2010. We seek a dynamic, reliable musician who is an excellent performer with strong communication skills, excellent sight reading skills, and accompanying experience.

Responsibilities Include:   Accompanying weekly rehearsals of the Immaculate Conception Church choir, playing parts and/or accompaniment as needed, Leading sectional rehearsals from time to time as needed, Leading rehearsals if/when the director is unable to attend and providing accompaniment for liturgies, prayer services, funerals and weddings

Qualifications:  Technical and musical mastery of the piano, Organ skills strongly desired, Strong sight-reading skills, Prior accompanying experience, preferably including choral accompanying, Experience reading open score preferred, Ability to collaborate effectively with director, cantors and choir members, Experience/knowledge of Roman Catholic tradition

Additional Information:  Rehearsals Thursdays, 6:30-8:30; Weekend liturgies, Saturday 5:30 p.m., Sunday 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience

Immaculate Conception Church Choir is a vibrant church choir embracing good liturgical practices in a post Vatican II era with approximately 50 singers and instrumentalists, located in Hampton, VA.    Our church choir and cantors are dedicated to empower the faithful assembly to participate fully and actively in prayer through quality liturgical music, covering a wide range of periods, styles and languages AND consisting of music written by great composers of history as well as works by contemporary composers.  In addition, the choir performs various octavos, motets, folk songs, spirituals and music for special occasions.
