About the Commission &
Liaison
In 2010, Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo appointed Dr. Dominick Hankle the Bishop’s Liaison to the Jewish and Muslim Communities of
Southern Virginia. In this capacity he serves as a member of the
Diocesan Commission as the representative for Interreligious
Affairs.

DiLorenzo and the Diocese of Richmond at Interreligious
events and dialogue initiatives in the Diocese in the
absence of the Bishop. |

Creating and
maintaining a Catholic leadership network to foster
relations with the Jewish and Muslim communities on the
local level and to raise a level of awareness among
Catholics about the importance of interreligious dialogue. |

Providing education
and resources for members of the interreligious leadership
network. |

Interreligious News from around the Diocese
A number of
interreligious activities have been happening around the Diocese of
Richmond. Depending on the population and interest the types of
activities vary.
In the interest of sharing ideas, I will try to post some events
that have taken place. Hopefully, they will provide ideas that
others may wish to implement.
Interfaith programs seek new understanding

A delegation from two Catholic
parishes in Norfolk attended the Shabbat service and the
Kiddush at a neighborhood synagogue.

article) Plans are underway for a Jewish delegation
to attend the Saturday evening liturgy at one of the
Catholic Churches. |

A women’s book discussion
using the book, The Faith Club was used as at Church of
the Ascension. Plans are underway to share the
experience with a woman’s group at a near-by synagogue. |

A Christian-Muslim Women’s
Group meets the second Monday of each month at 7:00 PM
in the Charlottesville area.

shown followed by speakers representing the Catholic,
Jewish and Islam perspectives in regard to forgiveness. |

To date about ten parishes
have hosted an adult formation session about the
teachings of the Catholic Church regarding
interreligious dialogue.
