Collections

illustrated piece of manuscriptThe Diocesan Archives is the repository for the historical and administrative records of the Diocese of Richmond. These records are arranged in a number of collections including, but not limited to: the records and papers of bishops, auxiliary bishops, Diocesan offices and consultative bodies; the records and papers of parishes, religious orders, hospitals, schools and other such institutions and individuals significant to the history of the Diocese. It should be noted that only records dated prior to the year 1980 are contained in the archives.

Also included among these collections are: photographs; bound manuscript volumes; audio visual materials; printed histories of parishes; programs from significant Diocesan and parish events; commemorative cards; maps and blueprints; liturgical and devotional books; artifacts and works of art.

Other informational resources include: national Catholic directories dating back to the mid 19th century; Diocesan directories and past volumes of The Catholic Virginian, the Diocesan newspaper.
